Newcastle United may have pulled off a very smart piece of business with the signing of Ousmane Diabaté.

Newcastle United believe they secured a major bargain after signing 18-year-old midfielder Ousmane Diabaté from Gençlerbirliği for around £250,000. The permanent deal, completed last month, saw the Guinean international immediately loaned back to the Turkish club. According to a report from Mark Douglas of The i Paper, Newcastle beat out competition from Brentford and Trabzonspor to finalize the low-cost transfer.
Diabaté has drawn comparisons to former Manchester City midfielder Yaya Touré due to his athleticism and technical style as a box-to-box presence. Newcastle hold a recall option in January, but the current expectation is that the midfielder will finish the season developing in Turkey.
