The club's policy in recent years has been to sign youngsters from rival clubs as Newcastle attempt to play catch-up

Newcastle United have completed the permanent youth signing of 15-year-old left-sided centre-back Bamgbola from Watford. The teenager spent the past three seasons with Watford and will go straight into Newcastle's Under-16 squad. The move continues Academy chief Steve Harper's strategy of recruiting promising talent from rival clubs outside the typical transfer window.
Harper explained that Newcastle's youth setup is playing catch-up with established academies and requires continuous recruitment to develop players ready for first-team opportunities. Meanwhile, Newcastle's Under-21 side, managed by Robbie Stockdale, suffered a 2-1 defeat to Solihull Moors in the National League Cup despite Alfie Seldon scoring the opening goal.
