Many believed Sven Botman should have seen red when Newcastle United lost at home to Aston Villa - now the Premier League Key Match Incidents Panel has offered their verdict…

The Premier League's Key Match Incidents Panel determined that Newcastle United defender Sven Botman should have been sent off against Aston Villa. Botman received only a yellow card for a robust challenge from behind on Villa striker Nicolas Jackson during Newcastle's 1-0 defeat on October 17 at St. James' Park. The panel voted 4-1 that Botman committed serious foul play.
Despite determining that a red card was warranted, the panel supported the VAR's decision not to intervene by a 3-2 vote, concluding the incident was not a clear and obvious error. Referees' chief Howard Webb echoed this view, explaining that the high-end reckless tackle remained subjective and within the referee's on-field discretion.
