“Didn’t give me much encouragement” – Sunderland player on own research before joining Black Cats

Sunderland goalkeeper Melker Ellborg revealed he was discouraged after watching the Netflix documentary Sunderland 'Til I Die on his way to join the club. The 23-year-old Swedish goalkeeper signed from Malmö FF for just under €4m in January. Serving primarily as a backup to Robin Roefs, Ellborg recently voiced frustration after manager Régis Le Bris excluded him from Sunderland's Europa League squad.

Ellborg admitted he initially had to look up Sunderland on a map when he first learned of their interest. Despite his initial reaction to the documentary, he was convinced to join after following the club's successful Premier League form under Le Bris, describing them as a functional team with significant momentum.
