Le Bris’ achievements still matter, but Sunderland’s Coventry defeat leaves difficult questions to answer…

Journalist James Copley argues that while he will not demand the dismissal of Régis Le Bris, the Sunderland head coach is now in serious trouble. Sunderland fell to a heavy defeat against Coventry City, leaving the club bottom of the Premier League with five points from nine matches. Copley criticized Le Bris for failing to make tactical and personnel adjustments at half-time before Coventry scored their third goal.
Copley notes that fan frustration escalated with boos and a red card for Omar Alderete. While Le Bris previously secured promotion and European qualification, Copley states that past successes cannot shield the manager or the underperforming players from accountability. With demanding fixtures against Chelsea, Aston Villa, Tottenham, and Liverpool approaching, Copley believes the path back for Le Bris looks exceedingly difficult.
