England star James fired a brace versus Spurs as Chelsea kept up their chase of dominant league leaders City, who almost let a three-goal lead slip versus Brighton
Manchester City maintained their perfect start to the Women's Super League season with a 3-2 victory over Brighton. Andree Jeglertz's side took an early 3-0 lead courtesy of a Khadija Shaw brace and a goal from Niamh Charles before surviving a fightback from Brighton, who replied through Olivia Garcia and Caitlin Hayes. The win keeps City at the top of the table.
Chelsea stay two points behind City after Lauren James inspired a 6-2 win over Tottenham at Stamford Bridge. James and Ellie Carpenter both scored twice for Sonia Bompastor's team, with substitutes Maika Hamano and Sjoeke Nusken also scoring. Elsewhere, London City Lionesses beat Everton 2-1, Manchester United defeated Charlton 3-1, Aston Villa edged Liverpool 2-1, and West Ham beat Crystal Palace 1-0.
