The game was lacking in action before Rogers and Gakpo scored…
Liverpool and Chelsea traded first-half penalty goals to bring the score to 1-1 before the interval in their Carabao Cup last-16 tie at Anfield. After a quiet opening period with few chances, Rogers broke the deadlock for Chelsea in the 38th minute. Cody Gakpo equalized for Liverpool shortly after from the spot following a handball infringement.
Chelsea earned their penalty when Ryan Gravenberch fouled Moises Caicedo inside the penalty area, allowing Rogers to finish into the top corner. Minutes later, Liverpool were awarded a spot kick after the ball grazed Wesley Fofana's fingertips following a corner, with Gakpo converting into the bottom-left corner.
