Virgil van Dijk hit back at suggestions that he forced former Netherlands boss Ronaldo Koeman into changing his tactics during the World Cup.

Netherlands captain Virgil van Dijk strongly rejected media claims that he forced former manager Ronald Koeman to change tactical formations during the World Cup. Speaking at a press conference ahead of a Nations League match against Germany, the 35-year-old Liverpool defender labeled accusations that he demanded a switch to a back five against Morocco as complete nonsense.
The Netherlands were eliminated by Morocco on penalties in the round of 32 after Cody Gakpo's opening goal was canceled out by an Issa Diop stoppage-time equalizer. Van Dijk insisted that tactical plans were devised by the coaching staff rather than individual players, while confirming his commitment to the national team under new manager Xavi.
