The young Australian didn't get paid for a year, Covid hit and then breaking his nose was the final blow

Dundee United striker Zac Sapsford has reflected on his difficult first spell in British football as a teenager. The Australian revealed that an attempt to join English non-league side Chester was derailed by international clearance issues, leaving him unable to play competitive matches for an entire year before COVID-19 lockdowns and a broken nose prompted his return home.
Sapsford eventually returned to Australia, playing for Hakoah Sydney City East, Sydney FC youth, and Western Sydney Wanderers before manager Jim Goodwin signed him for Dundee United. He highlighted how surviving the unpaid scholarship and registration setback helped build his character ahead of his Scottish Premiership career.
