Speaking on talkSPORT, McCoist suggested that the scale of the breaches is unprecedented and noted he expects the club to face demotion down the English leagues.

Drawing on his experience managing Rangers after their demotion to Scottish League Two in 2012, McCoist expressed sympathy for Manchester City supporters and players. He noted that if relegation occurs, the squad would likely face a major overhaul, though he believes loyal fans would continue supporting the team.
