The defeat has placed significant pressure on Celtic manager Martin O'Neill following a tactical reshuffle that failed to produce a positive result. Ryan Naderi scored the opening goal of the match to put Rangers ahead before halftime.

O'Neill altered Celtic's formation to a three-man defense featuring Auston Trusty, Cameron Carter-Vickers, and Liam Scales. Goalkeeper Viljami Sinisalo returned to the starting lineup in place of Sam Johnstone, while midfielder Luke McCowan was substituted at halftime. Record signing Kasper Hogh was left out of the starting lineup.
