GdS: Amorim relying on ‘irreplaceable’ defensive duo – the reasons and the Gabbia factor

AC Milan manager Ruben Amorim is heavily relying on central defenders Koni De Winter and Strahinja Pavlovic this season. Alongside goalkeeper Mike Maignan, De Winter and Pavlovic are the only Milan players to have featured in every single minute of every match so far. Amorim views both defenders as functional to his system, with Pavlovic providing aggression and De Winter contributing strong ball-playing ability.

Their consistent selection also stems from limited squad alternatives, as Matteo Gabbia has been sidelined with an ankle problem. However, Gabbia is expected to see more playing time during a congested stretch of seven matches before late October. Meanwhile, reports indicate Pavlovic could soon sign a new contract with Milan.
