Ferhat Gundogdu, the president of the Turkish refereeing body, has been arrested alongside his vice-president and five others as part of a police corruption investigation. Turkish Justice Minister Akin Gurlek confirmed the arrests and stated that authorities also conducted searches of homes, offices, and workplaces across the country.
According to Gurlek, the probe centers on allegations of interference in referee classifications, assignments, appointments, scoring processes, and rule examinations. This follows an earlier scandal in November 2025 where 149 officials were suspended over betting accounts, though Gurlek made no direct link between the cases.
