Unbeaten boxer Abel Mendoza has seen his career momentum stall despite reaching a 44-0 record, leaving him six wins away from Floyd Mayweather's 50-0 benchmark. The 30-year-old Texan lightweight has fought only twice since December 2024, recording victories over Juvenal Herrera in July 2025 and Javier Rodriguez in May 2026. This reflects a sharp drop in activity for a fighter who previously competed four or five times a year.
Mendoza has also disputed his official BoxRec record, arguing past victories were omitted from his total. While results from the Team Combat League have added confusion, Mendoza stated his primary goal is winning a world title rather than surpassing Mayweather's record. The undefeated fighter confirmed to World Boxing News that he plans to announce his next bout soon.
