The heavyweight division has had something of an overhaul in 2026, triggered by Oleksandr Usyk’s struggle with kickboxer Rico Verhoeven and his subsequent decision to relinquish three sanctioning body titles

Promoter Frank Warren revealed plans to organize major heavyweight unification fights in 2027 and aims to draw Oleksandr Usyk back into the division's title picture. Warren currently promotes three of the sanctioning bodies' titlists, with Agit Kabayel holding the WBC belt, Filip Hrgovic holding the IBF title, and Daniel Dubois defending his WBO strap. Usyk, who retains lineal recognition, is reportedly weighing his future options, including potential fights against David Benavidez or Tyson Fury.
The heavyweight scene could see five titleholders by the end of the year, as reports indicate the WBA plans to award a Super title to the winner of the Tyson Fury versus Anthony Joshua bout on December 11. Meanwhile, Warren also expects 21-year-old heavyweight Moses Itauma to remain active in 2027 to rebuild following his ninth-round loss to Hrgovic.
