The Story in 60 Seconds

Oleksandr Usyk has decided to move back down to cruiserweight with the goal of becoming undisputed champion again in 2027, dealing a blow to Tyson Fury's hopes for a trilogy bout. Team director Sergey Lapin confirmed Usyk's plans to pursue a vacant title before targeting David Benavidez for the undisputed crown in what is envisioned as the final chapter of his career.

Fury had called out Usyk for a potential 2026 rematch ahead of his scheduled bout against Anthony Joshua in December. Usyk, who defeated Fury twice in 2024, previously saw talks for a clash with Deontay Wilder collapse and most recently defeated Rico Verhoeven via an 11th-round stoppage in May.
