Lancashire appoint Paul Farbrace as their new director of cricket weeks before he was due to begin the same role at Sussex.

Lancashire have appointed Sussex head coach Paul Farbrace as their new director of cricket. The 59-year-old was originally scheduled to take on a part-time director role at Sussex in November, but will instead succeed Mark Chilton at Emirates Old Trafford. In his new position, Farbrace will oversee both the men's and women's cricket operations, working above head coach Steven Croft.
The appointment follows a difficult season for Lancashire, who finished seventh in Division Two of the County Championship, marking their lowest historical finish. In contrast, Farbrace guided Sussex to third place in Division One despite starting the campaign with a 12-point financial deduction.
