Marques Ackerman loves nothing more than fighting fire with fire and will provide a significant boost to South Africa’s middle-order, Proteas skipper Temba Bavuma said on Saturday in Gqeberha.
South Africa is preparing to make at least three lineup changes ahead of the second Test against Australia in Gqeberha following a 214-run defeat in Durban. Marques Ackerman and Matthew Breetzke are poised to enter the batting lineup, while fast bowler Kagiso Rabada has been cleared to play after overcoming a hamstring injury. Captain Temba Bavuma withheld naming an official starting XI due to approaching thunderstorms.
Bavuma also appeared to test his personal fitness on the eve of the match by performing sprints and back stretches during training. Fast bowler Anrich Nortje has fully pulled up after the series opener, and Aiden Markram has rejoined the squad after a short absence.
