Queensland coach James Hopes says Xavier Bartlett is well in the Test queue and will play unrestricted Sheffield Shield cricket starting October 10.
Queensland coach James Hopes confirmed that Xavier Bartlett will push for Australian Test selection during the Sheffield Shield 2026-27 season. Bartlett is cleared to bowl without restrictions in Queensland's opener against Western Australia at the WACA Ground starting October 10, 2026. He will lead the attack while Michael Neser is with the national Test squad and Mark Steketee recovers from surgery.
Hopes emphasized Bartlett's strong first-class record, which includes 111 wickets at an average of 25.77 and a batting average of 25.06 across 32 matches. Bartlett will participate in up to three Shield matches before Australia's home ODI series against England begins on November 13, 2026, offering him an opportunity to state his red-ball case.
