Allrounder produced an ominous display in the Stars' season opener after handing over the captaincy to Meg Lanning…

Annabel Sutherland starred with both bat and ball after stepping down from the Melbourne Stars captaincy to manage her heavy workload. In the Weber WBBL|12 season opener on Thursday night, Sutherland scored 57 runs off 36 balls and took 3-34 as the Stars defeated the reigning champion Hobart Hurricanes by 18 runs.
Sutherland, who handed the leadership back to Meg Lanning, shared a 109-run partnership with the returning skipper. Sutherland explained that stepping away from the captaincy provides her with vital mental space ahead of a demanding international schedule with the Australian national team.
