Annabel Sutherland has opted to lighten her leadership responsibilities, focusing on her contributions with bat and ball in a busy summer

Meg Lanning has returned as captain of the Melbourne Stars for WBBL|12, taking over from Annabel Sutherland after the allrounder decided to step down. Sutherland led the team for two seasons, guiding them to the finals last season, but opted to lighten her leadership workload ahead of a busy international schedule with Australia.
Incoming Stars coach Richard Pyrah and Lanning both noted that leadership responsibilities will be shared among senior players, including Kim Garth. Lanning, who scored a league-leading 479 runs last season, steps back into the captaincy role as the club searches for its maiden title ahead of the October 29 opener.
