The Story in 60 Seconds

Perth Scorchers launched their WBBL season with a dominant nine-wicket victory over the Melbourne Renegades at the WACA Ground. After recovering from a collapse at 4-20 to finish on 6-136, Melbourne was powerless to stop the Scorchers from cruising past the target with 39 balls remaining. New captain Beth Mooney hit an unbeaten 58 to lead the chase.

Mooney combined with former skipper Sophie Devine, who finished on 47 not out, for an unbroken century partnership. Earlier, Chloe Ainsworth and WBBL debutant Fatima Sana each took two wickets to dismantle the Renegades' top order, despite a rescuing 109-run stand between Georgia Wareham and Nicole Faltum.
