Scott Boland took four wickets as Australia reduced South Africa to 97 for 5 on a rain-affected second day of the second Test in Gqeberha. Delays pushed the resumption of play to 3:45pm following a six-hour wait due to a wet outfield. Boland quickly dismissed Marques Ackerman for six and later ended a 50-run resistance by dismissing Ryan Rickelton for 31, finishing the day with bowling figures of 4 for 31.
Mitchell Starc also claimed the wicket of Matthew Breetzke for four, leaving South Africa in trouble at 40 for 4 earlier in the session. Temba Bavuma provided stability for the hosts, remaining unbeaten on 41 alongside Rickelton before the late breakthrough. Australia mounted the bowling attack without Josh Hazlewood, who was sidelined during the day's play because of illness.
