Mike Hussey has been appointed as a consultant coach for the Australian national team ahead of next year's Ashes series and the 2027 ODI World Cup. The 51-year-old former Australia batter turned down an informal approach from England red-ball coach Stephen Fleming to take up the role with Australia, who are seeking to fix batting issues following a 2-1 Test series loss in South Africa.
Hussey will also assist the team during an upcoming home T20 series against England and a four-Test series against New Zealand. His long-term role extends through the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics and the 2028 T20 World Cup, drawing on his extensive coaching background with England, Chennai Super Kings, and Welsh Fire.
