During Agarkar’s tenure, India reached the final of the ODI World Cup before winning the 2024 T20 World Cup and the 2025 Champions Trophy. India also retained the T20 World Cup earlier this year

India head coach Gautam Gambhir has praised outgoing chief selector Ajit Agarkar, hailing his conviction following the end of his tenure at the BCCI. Agarkar officially finished his term on Tuesday after taking over the role in July 2023. Gambhir noted on social media that winning three ICC trophies stands as a testimony to Agarkar's team-first mentality throughout his service.
During Agarkar's tenure, India reached an ODI World Cup final, won the 2024 T20 World Cup, and claimed the 2025 Champions Trophy before retaining the T20 World Cup. Former spinner R Ashwin also commended Agarkar for managing difficult decisions, including phasing out senior players. Sources revealed that Agarkar did not request a contract extension, prompting the BCCI to begin inviting fresh applications.
