Former Australia batter Usman Khawaja has made fresh revelations about the infamous 2018 ball-tampering scandal, claiming that discussions about altering the ball were far more widespread within the team than Cricket Australia's investigation established.
Former Australia batter Usman Khawaja has claimed that conversations regarding ball-tampering were widespread across the squad during the 2018 tour of South Africa. In excerpts from his upcoming autobiography, Khawaja stated that players openly discussed methods of altering the ball, including using sandpaper. He asserted that awareness extended across departments and support staff, remarking, "It was all of us."
Cricket Australia quickly defended its initial 2018 investigation, which concluded that prior knowledge was limited to Steve Smith, David Warner, and Cameron Bancroft. The governing body stated it remains comfortable with its integrity findings while noting opportunities remain to present additional information. Current captain Pat Cummins had previously downplayed potential fallout from the book's release.
