From being inspired by her cousin Lakhsay Sheron’s Asian Games medal to winning one herself, Neeru Dhanda has completed a remarkable journey - and in the process, created a piece of history for Indian shooting.
Indian shooter Neeru Dhanda clinched the gold medal in the women's trap final at the 2026 Asian Games on Tuesday. The 26-year-old hit 28 out of 30 targets to win the event and break the previous Asian record of 24. China's Sun Yunong finished second with 26 hits to claim silver, while Kuwait's Hajar Abdulmalik secured bronze with 21.
Dhanda also won a team silver earlier that day alongside Indian teammates Aashima Ahlawat and Manisha Keer. A Naib Subedar in the Indian Army coached by Olympic champion Peter Wilson, Dhanda previously made history in July as the first Indian woman to win an individual trap gold at an ISSF World Cup.
