The India vice-captain has batted across every position from opener to six, but says number three is where he feels most at home.
India vice-captain Tilak Varma has revealed that number three is his favorite batting position, while discussing the challenges of transitioning to the lower middle order in T20 Internationals. Speaking on JioStar ahead of the India-West Indies series in Lucknow, the left-hander explained that although he grew up opening, batting at number three remains his preferred spot.
Tilak highlighted the technical and mental hurdles of batting at positions five or six, where older balls, slower deliveries, and yorkers demand adjustments. Despite these difficulties, he has scored 327 runs across 15 innings at number five or below since June 2026, crediting detailed visualization and mental preparation for his success.
