Tilak opened on issues he has had to go through when his batting number has been changed regularly for the country.

India batter Tilak Varma revealed that his preferred batting position is No. 3 in the top order, despite regularly shifting spots to accommodate team requirements. Speaking on Star Sports, Varma explained that adapting to roles from No. 3 or 4 down to No. 6 or 7 has been tough, but he has trained both mentally and technically to fulfill lower-middle-order duties.
Varma noted that he practiced remaining still to combat yorkers and handle slower balls in the death overs. Having started his career as an opener and later moving down the order in the IPL, Varma stated he remains willing to open if asked by the team.
