As Neeru Dhanda led the Indian contingent out for one last time at the Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium on Sunday night, it was symbolic of how India’s Asian Games campaign had unfolded over the past two weeks.
India concluded its Asian Games campaign in Nagoya with 85 total medals, including 21 gold medals, largely driven by standout performances from female athletes and young debutants. Female competitors captured 11 gold medals alongside three in mixed events, highlighted by Neeru Dhanda winning India's first individual gold in trap shooting and 17-year-old archer Kumkum Mohod taking two golds.
Additional historic milestones included Pranavi Urs earning India's first women's golf gold, the women's hockey team securing gold after 44 years, and Harmanpreet Kaur leading the women's cricket team to victory. Boxing comebacks by Lovlina Borgohain and Parveen Hooda brought further golds, despite medal shutouts in shooting for Manu Bhaker and a disappointing single bronze in badminton.
