Bad light brought an early end to day one of the first Test in Durban, leaving Australia at 187-6 against South Africa. After winning the toss and electing to bat, the visitors collapsed to 124-6 before captain Pat Cummins and Matt Renshaw staged a vital counterattack. The pair produced an unbeaten 63-run partnership for the seventh wicket before play was stopped 24.4 overs ahead of schedule.
South Africa's pace attack shared the wickets, with Wiaan Mulder, Marco Jansen, and Anrich Nortje claiming two dismissals each. Australia suffered early blows, including Travis Head for nine and Nic Maddinson for a duck. Renshaw will resume day two unbeaten on 46 alongside Cummins on 33.
