Jimmy Anderson is expected to retire from professional cricket at age 44 after Lancashire decided against renewing his contract. Incoming director of cricket Paul Farbrace and new chief executive Richard Kenyon informed Anderson that he is not part of the club's future plans. The decision follows a difficult season where Lancashire finished second-bottom in County Championship Division Two.
Anderson had captained the side during their recent campaign and taken 50 wickets at an average of 17. Unless he secures an overseas deal or joins another county, this concludes a career that includes 1,193 first-class wickets and 704 Test dismissals for England.
