John Simpson departs Sussex for Nottinghamshire

Wicketkeeper-batter John Simpson has signed a two-year permanent contract with Nottinghamshire following the conclusion of his contract with Sussex. Simpson will represent Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge in both the County Championship and the Metro Bank One-Day Cup. His departure comes as Sussex manages financial restrictions after being placed in special measures by the ECB.

During his tenure at Sussex, Simpson captained the club to the Division Two title in 2024 and accumulated 2,864 red-ball runs with 11 centuries. His arrival at Nottinghamshire under head coach Peter Moores means the club will not bring back South African wicketkeeper Kyle Verreynne for the upcoming campaign.
