Injured opener Sam Fanning batted through a hamstring injury at No. 10 to help Western Australia secure a remarkable two-wicket Sheffield Shield win over Queensland at the WACA Ground. Chasing a target of 201, Western Australia had slumped to 161 for 8 before Fanning joined captain Aaron Hardie to chase down the remaining 40 runs in coach Beau Casson's first Shield game in charge.
Queensland scored 307 and 68, while Western Australia posted 175 and 201 for 8. A second-innings spell of 5 for 19 from Jhye Richardson helped set up the chase. Hardie guided WA home with an unbeaten 80, alongside Fanning's gritty 14 not out from 82 balls.
