England all-rounder Jamie Overton would consider returning to play Test cricket for next year’s Ashes if approached by captain Joe Root.

England all-rounder Jamie Overton has stated he would seriously consider a Test cricket return for next year's Ashes if requested by captain Joe Root. Overton, currently with England's limited-overs squad in Pakistan, stepped away from red-ball cricket on an indefinite break in 2025 following physical strain after playing against India. White-ball captain Harry Brook has also discussed a possible Test return with him.
Overton explained that his hiatus allowed him to manage workloads and recover physically following a history of back stress fractures. Following Ben Stokes' retirement, England could consider the Surrey all-rounder to bolster their lower-order batting and seam attack for the upcoming home Ashes series against Australia.
