Cricket Australia is monitoring Steve Smith after the veteran batsman was struck in the head by an Anrich Nortje bouncer in Durban on Monday. The delivery struck the back of Smith's helmet early in his innings, prompting an on-field medical assessment under standard concussion protocols before he was initially cleared to bat on.
Smith went on to score 27 runs from 41 balls before being dismissed by Simon Harmer as Australia declared at 6-314. Concerns grew when Smith missed fielding duties in the slips cordon and Michael Neser warmed up during tea, with Cricket Australia confirming Smith is undergoing continued monitoring.
