Justin Langer has claimed the severe penalties handed down to Steve Smith, David Warner and Cameron Bancroft for their roles in the infamous Sandpapergate scandal changed cricket forever, in a subtle but impossible to miss way.
Former Australia men's coach Justin Langer claimed that Steve Smith, David Warner, and Cameron Bancroft took the fall for cricketers worldwide following the 2018 Sandpapergate scandal. Speaking on the In the Middle with Watto podcast, Langer argued that the disappearance of reverse swing across international cricket since the incident indicates other teams were also using illegal methods to alter the ball.
Langer strongly criticized the treatment of Smith and Warner upon their return in England, labeling the public reception as some of the worst adult human behavior he had ever seen. He also expressed sympathy for Bancroft, whose international career stalled following his nine-month suspension.
