Fernando Alonso has officially signed a contract extension with Aston Martin to race through the 2027 season alongside teammate Lance Stroll. The decision extends the Spaniard's Formula 1 career past his 46th birthday despite Aston Martin enduring a difficult 2026 campaign. Days prior to the announcement, Alonso was seen waving at Sergio Perez as the Cadillac driver passed him during the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in Baku, highlighting the team's ongoing struggles.

Alonso currently sits 19th in the drivers' standings, having scored all three of Aston Martin's championship points this season. Despite power deficit issues stemming from the Honda engine and a fifth double DNF in Baku, Alonso told BBC Sport that he retains faith in Honda's management restructuring and future development ahead of 2027.
