The Story in 60 Seconds

Hockenheimring managing directors Joern Teske and Jochen Nerpel confirmed the circuit is in discussions with Formula 1 regarding a potential return to the calendar, though the project remains largely theoretical. The venue recently launched its Motorworld facility and still aims to bring F1 back, having last hosted a Grand Prix in 2019 with financial support from Mercedes.

However, Nerpel stated that the chances of receiving public funding in Germany are virtually zero, contrasting the situation with state-backed hosts. The circuit would need temporary grandstands to increase capacity to 100,000 and a larger pit building for 11 teams. Additionally, Teske indicated that staging a one-off replacement race without a multi-year deal would not be financially worthwhile.
