Key Things to Know
  • Mercedes can clinch its ninth F1 constructors' championship at the Mexico City Grand Prix by outscoring Ferrari by 39 points.
  • Mercedes enters the race leading Ferrari by 133 points with 215 points left to play for across five rounds.
  • To win the title in Mexico, Mercedes must secure a race victory with both cars finishing on the podium.
The Story in 60 Seconds

Mercedes can secure its ninth Formula 1 constructors' championship at the Mexico City Grand Prix if it expands its points lead over Ferrari to at least 172 points. Mercedes currently leads Ferrari by 133 points with five races remaining in the season, meaning the team must outscore its sole remaining title rival by at least 39 points during the race weekend.

To achieve this, Mercedes must finish with both cars on the podium, including a victory. A one-two finish for Mercedes would secure the title if Ferrari scores four points or fewer, while a one-three finish requires Ferrari to score no more than a single point.
