Sergio Perez has warned that Formula 1's 2026 regulations pose severe safety risks due to extreme speed differentials between cars. Following the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in Baku, the Cadillac driver stated that he nearly suffered a major crash while defending against Liam Lawson, attributing the danger to differing engine power and electrical energy deployment.
Perez called for regulatory changes, pointing out that competitors such as Mercedes and Red Bull possess significantly stronger engines. While the FIA has previously made adjustments to energy deployment rules, and further electrical reductions are planned for 2027, Perez remains deeply concerned about driver safety heading into future races.
