Formula 1 fans criticized McLaren after team radio messages revealed Oscar Piastri had to inform his pit wall whether teammate Lando Norris was pitting during the Bahrain Grand Prix. Amid changing weather conditions, race engineer Tom Stallard instructed Piastri to make noise if Norris stayed out to avoid a double shuffle. Piastri confirmed Norris stayed out and entered the pits, successfully switching to intermediate tires.
Supporters on Reddit described the pit wall communications as shameful, accusing the team of holding a midfield mentality and having strategy issues. Piastri eventually finished the race in sixth place, while Norris finished ninth after an off-track incident. The result leaves McLaren facing increasing pressure from Red Bull in the constructors' standings.
