Oscar Piastri was contending for a podium at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix when a front brake lock-up at turn one dropped him to 15th place. Prior to the incident, McLaren race engineer Tom Stallard had alerted Piastri over the team radio that teammate Lando Norris had experienced a similar lock-up at the exact same corner earlier in the race.
Piastri expressed confusion over the lock-up, stating he had not braked harder or later than on previous laps. McLaren team principal Andrea Stella stated that the team shared responsibility for the errors, noting a lack of straight-line speed left drivers vulnerable to pressure.
