"To get the car to be quick, we just have to try so hard to be perfect, and you cannot be perfect," said Lando Norris after practice for the Formula 1 United States Grand Prix in Austin."We're just a step…

McLaren has begun rolling out its final Formula 1 upgrades of 2026 at the United States Grand Prix to address handling instability and slow-corner performance. The updates aim to make the MCL40 less nervous and more predictable for drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, following a dip in competitiveness after mid-season victories. Further phases of the package will be introduced in Brazil and Las Vegas.
The Austin update introduces revised front suspension geometry and reprofiled diffuser furniture to improve driver feel and front-axle grip. Team principal Andrea Stella stated that these developments build upon a new aerodynamic direction launched in Azerbaijan. McLaren hopes the complete package will enable the team to contend consistently for podiums and race victories by the end of the year.
