McLaren introduced the initial stage of its final 2026 Formula 1 upgrade package at the United States Grand Prix in Austin. The team is addressing ongoing issues with slow-corner performance, straightline speed, and nervous car handling on the MCL40. Following practice, Lando Norris stated the team remains "a step behind" and noted that the car requires intense effort and precision to drive fast.
The Austin package includes revised front-end suspension geometry and reprofiled diffuser components designed to give drivers better handling and feel. Further parts are scheduled for the Brazilian and Las Vegas Grands Prix. Team principal Andrea Stella stated that these developments build upon a foundational aerodynamic concept introduced in Azerbaijan, with design resources now fully switched to 2027.
