Max Verstappen endured problems with his downshifts and steering during the first day of action at Interlagos.

Red Bull Racing is planning several adjustments to Max Verstappen's car ahead of qualifying for the Sao Paulo Grand Prix after the driver suffered issues during Friday practice. Verstappen finished third in both practice sessions at Interlagos but struggled with recurring downshift difficulties and unusually heavy steering. Head of Race Strategy Hannah Schmitz confirmed the team is evaluating multiple changes, including fitting a different steering wheel for the remainder of the race weekend.
Despite the setbacks, Schmitz expressed optimism regarding the car's underlying potential, noting that Verstappen remained competitive alongside Lando Norris and George Russell. However, potential heavy rain forecast for Saturday afternoon could impact qualifying. Meanwhile, Verstappen's Red Bull teammate Isack Hadjar finished over a second off the pace after struggling with single-lap performance.
