Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen split over F1 racing in Qatar and Abu Dhabi

Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen hold contrasting opinions on whether Formula 1 should proceed with the 2026 Qatar and Abu Dhabi Grands Prix amid Middle East security concerns. Verstappen advocates avoiding the region if hostilities persist, arguing that contractual commitments should not take precedence over safety. In contrast, Hamilton hopes the races proceed, stating that the situation appeared acceptable based on his understanding, while leaving the final call to F1 chief Stefano Domenicali.

Regional instability has already led to calendar changes, including relocating the Bahrain event to Malaysia. Haas team principal Ayao Komatsu revealed that Domenicali is expected to deliver a definitive verdict by mid-October, with Imola serving as a prepared backup to host the season finale if Abu Dhabi cannot proceed. Ferrari could potentially gain an advantage at Imola, having recently conducted a Pirelli tyre test there with their current car.
