Defending champion Brian Campbell, and four-time PGA Tour winner Tom Kim, got caught up in a costly rules error on Friday, when both played each other's golf balls at the 18th hole…

Tom Kim and defending champion Brian Campbell received two-shot penalties on Friday after inadvertently hitting each other's golf balls at the VidantaWorld Mexico Open. The bizarre rules incident occurred on the 18th hole when both players found the same greenside bunker and played out before discovering the mix-up.
The resulting two-stroke penalties under Rule 6.3c turned what would have been par fours into double-bogey sixes, dropping both players from nine-under to seven-under. Despite the mishap, both golfers safely made the cut and sit tied for 26th place, seven strokes behind tournament leader Andrew Novak.
