Patrick Reed had to withdraw last month from the DP World Tour’s BMW Championship. He shared the painful reason why.

Patrick Reed revealed the injuries that forced him to withdraw from the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth Club last month. Prior to this event, the 2018 Masters champion had never withdrawn from a tournament due to injury. Reed explained that existing neck and shoulder pain was worsened when he struck a cart path on the 3rd hole and a tree root on the 9th hole, causing his left hand to severely swell.
Reed withdrew on the 10th tee after realizing he could no longer execute normal swings. While he initially feared a broken hand, medical evaluations in Texas diagnosed a shoulder issue. Following a two-tournament absence to recover, Reed is returning to competition at the Spanish Open and remains the season-long points leader on the DP World Tour.
