The International team has struggled to match the US throughout Presidents Cup history, but one format in particular has proved especially problematic

The International Presidents Cup team has historically struggled against the United States, winning only once in 15 editions back in 1998 and tying in 2003. Across the competition's history, the team has attempted various changes under past captains, including Nick Price's points reduction in 2015 and Ernie Els's analytics overhaul in 2019, yet American dominance has persisted.
Historical records reveal that the foursomes format remains the biggest weakness for the Internationals. Out of 30 all-time foursomes sessions, the Internationals have won only six, trailing the US by 34 points in that format alone, compared to a much narrower five-point deficit in fourball matches.
